Bull’s Eye Tie Dye T-shirt Design

Hello! Are you ready to start the tie dying fun?
Nice, lets get started.

·         STEP 1
 - Gather materials   - for this project you will need:
 - garbage bags_ to protect your work area
- thongs_ for holding material if dipping in hot dye container
- long handle spoon_ to mix hot dye
- bucket or large bowl to pour die into
- hot water
- salt_ to mix with dye
- gloves_ to protect hands from hot dye if dipping or using squirt bottles and to prevent stains
- plastic apron_ to protect your clothing
- rubber bands_ for tying the fabric
- 100% white cotton T-shirt (Prewashed)
- dye / wiki-wiki dye (array of colours)
- plastic bags/zip lock_ to store dyed fabric overnight
- plastic squirt bottles_ if squirting dye on fabric instead of dipping
- scissors_ for cutting rubber bands from fabric

·         STEP 2
Prepare dye by following instructions at the back of the packet or by simply bringing your water to a boil in a pot then adding dye powder and salt and combine by stirring well with a long-handled spoon until salt particles and dye powder has fully dissolved. Repeat this for every colour dye you intend to use then pour into bucket or squirt bottles.
While waiting for water to come to a boil take this time to put on your gloves and apron and cover your work area with the garbage bag.

·         STEP 3
Open and place your prewashed white t-shirt flat on your prepared work area, making sure there are no ripples and bumps in the fabric.

·         STEP 4
Find the center of your t-shirt or where you would like the mid-point of your bull’s eye to be, then pinch and pull the fabric upward forming a cone shape.

·    STEP 5
Once you have decided on the size and position of your cone hold it in place and you can now tie your first rubber band to secure the fabric in place. You may then proceed to tie the remainder of your t-shirt in even sections.
*NOTE: The bigger your sections or the further away or close your rubber bands are to each other, the bigger or smaller the rings in your bull’s eye will be. The amount of rubber bands you use is all based on how many rings you want and the size.

When finished tying your dye ready t-shirt should look something like this.

·         STEP 6
This step is where the magic begins.
Dipping: If your dipping your fabric into the dye then leave hot/warm prepared dye colours in their separate buckets and use thongs to stir up dye and to aid with holding the fabric as you dip it into the hot dye, section by section between the rubber bands.

Squirting: If you’re using squirt bottles then go ahead and carefully pour the hot/warm dye into the bottles and cover them with the pointed caps, then generously squeeze the dye onto the t-shirt section by section mixing the colours as you like.

·         STEP 7
Time to store your fabric.
Place your fabric gently into a zip lock or plastic bag and allow it to sit over night or 24 hours in a cool dry place for the dye stain to be fully absorbed into the fabric. Careful not to squeeze the fabric while it’s in the bag.

·         STEP 8
Wash and dry time.
Open and remove tie dyed fabric from plastic and place in a sink. Using a scissors cut and remove all rubber bands from the fabric and rinse thoroughly under running water until water runs clear squeezing gently during the process.

Once water appears to be running clear then turn off the faucet and squeeze out excess water and place it in the dryer ALONE and dry it on a cool heat setting or simply hang it outside on the line to air dry.

·         STEP 9
YAY!! You have now come to the last step.
Its time to really see the outcome and WEAR your creation.

We have come to the end of our tie dying project. I do hope that you thoroughly enjoyed and had fun while creating your own tie dye. Do share this with your friends and family and remember practice makes perfect.
