Pleated Tie Dye Design

Materials needed for the procedure:
1. White cotton t-shirt
2.  rubber bands (depending on the different colors)
3. Fabric dyes (any colors of your choice)
4.  Squeeze bottles (you will need different bottles for each color of fabric dye)
5. Paper towels
6. Scissors
7.  Bucket
8. Gloves


Step by Step instructions for making a pleated designed tie-dyed T-shirt

Step 1
Soak t-shirt in the bucket with cold water. Then, remove t-shirt from the water and wring water out. Lay t-shirt on work surface. Put left hand at tip of sleeve and other hand at bottom of t-shirt at corner. Then fold over 2 inches.

Step 2
 Flip shirt over onto back side and fold over 2 inches. Replicate folding every 2 inches and making sure to flip t-shirt over after each fold. When finished, t-shirt should look like an accordion pleated tube.

Step 3
Wrap rubber band around the center of the folded t-shirt. Continue to tie rubber bands above and below center band of the t-shirt. Average equivalent spaces when tying each rubber band on the t-shirt.

Step 4
 Wear the rubber gloves and prepare each color dye using separate squeeze bottles to store each color.

Step 5
 Apply each dye mixture by squirting its corresponding color to each rubber-banded section of the t-shirt.

Step 6
Turn t-shirt over and apply dye to the back side. Make sure to squirt the same color dye in the same color section as the front. Continue until all sections are dyed.

Step 7
Let dye set for 30 to 60 minutes. Rinse under cold water and gently squeeze until water runs clear. Blot with paper towels. Cut rubber bands off with scissors.

Step 8
Unroll the t-shirt and let it air dry.
